Guess Who I Voted For?
Now if you know anything about me, you know that I’m a Canadian citizen and that my worldly credentials also known as a Green Card prevents me from voting.
So if you opened this blog post because you were nosy or in proper terms curious to discover if I was a left wing liberal or right wing conservative you are going to be sadly disappointed. Because this post is not about my beliefs on: abortion, same-sex marriage, immigration, or even health care.
But really if you have read this much, you might as well allow your curiosity to wonder what this blog has to do with politics right? I mean, why not tackle the two things you never want to bring up on a first date… politics or religion… I mean, unless you don’t want to be with a crazy person… don’t be afraid to talk about these topics they matter… just make sure you’re willing to listen… ok sorry I digressed.
With the Election just a day away and thousands who have already turned in absentee ballots, or voted early I thought this might be a shot of hope for all of you doomsday preppers if the OTHER candidate gets elected…but really make sure you have enough water and beans.
As I stated earlier, I’m Canadian so even if I told you who I wanted to vote for it would just give you ammunition of judgment to store up against me… right? Cause isn’t that what we are suppose to do when someone believes in something different than us? Our thoughts and our ways are higher than others aren’t they? Oh wait.. that’s Gods.
As I have approached this election I have been watching the news… watching the debates… and reading allot of crazy peoples posts on social media…. if that’s you… know that there is a block button for that…But more importantly than all of this information that I have been taking in… I have been praying… a lot of praying. Yep I did it… religion and politics in the same post.
The question is, have you? Have you been praying? When was the last time you did? What did you pray? God please don’t let… so and so get elected… sounds kind of subjective doesn’t it? I only say that because too often are we putting all our future into the wrong hope, because last time I checked God’s word said, “have no other God’s above me”(Exodus 20: 3). Have you placed the fate of this election in front of God… because in some ways it seems as though we have created an idol out of this presidential race in which our hope appears to be in a man/woman… almost as a functional messiah… when it should be in something… or should I say SOMEONE else… the One Messiah.
Go read 1 Samuel 8 & 1 Samuel 9
It is almost as if history is repeating itself. Years and years ago, there was a group called the Israelites, and up until a certain point this group had God as their leader and master. He was enough… He was what they desired… however, this particular group of people began to see other nations led by human leaders/kings… so they themselves decided to talk to a man name Samuel. Samuel was a prophet during this time, and the Israelites wanted him to communicate with God on their behalf about them having an earthy king to lead them. You can imagine how this made God feel… a Divine leader who protected them, fed them with bread from heaven, saved them from slavery, yet this was not enough for them… they needed more.
Here are a few verses that I would like to highlight.
“And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey their voice and make them a king.” Samuel then said to the men of Israel, “Go every man to his city.”” 1 Samuel 8:22 ESV
In the text above from 1 Samuel 8: 22 you can almost hear the sadness and frustration in Gods voice as He tells Samuel go and make them a king. Almost as God is saying I’m done… these people don’t get it… they are going to need to lead themselves to destruction to see their need for me… you can hear Him say… well if you think you can do better… if you think you can find a leader better than me… go find him. God says, “Obey them and make them a king.” You can hear him say let them see what comes of this… make them the king they want.
Later on in chapter nine of first Samuel… God says, “here is the man that will restrain my people”. Restrain… that doesn’t sound like the best selection… nor does it sound like the people are disciplined to follow said future king.
Fast forward a few chapters, and Saul is doing a decent job leading the people… winning battles etc. however he takes matters into his own hands… and disobeys a command from God… this which would lead to him eventually loosing his power because he thought his ways were better than Gods. During this time God chooses a new king… check the verse below.
“The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided for myself a king among his sons.””1 Samuel 16:1
God was no longer focused on just giving any leader to the people and allowing them to be in charge… no God says I will send you…. I have provided myself a king. Not the people… God.
God says enough is enough… you had your chance… let me show you someone to lead… one hand picked… one after my own heart… however, even that king… King David… made some really poor choices as well… ones that got others killed.
So regardless of who it is… or what tribe they come from… or what side of the political street their camped… humans are humans… and they are going to be who they are… which is creation… and the last time a checked creation was who made the mistake years ago in the garden… not the Creator. What we can see throughout history… from the garden… to the Israelites first king… to today’s politics… is that our hope and future should not hinge on a particular governmental party.
At the end of the day… your vote only matters if you have cast it before the King Eternal… for it is in Him we must hope… for our country and for our world… it is in Him who has authority to calm the storms both physically and metaphorically… in our lives and the world… it is Him who will give sight to the blind… it is Him who will motivate and change people’s hearts… not the media or Facebook… or your 2016 ballot.
So as I mentioned above… I voted this morning… yep, I cast my ballot at the feet of the author and perfector of my faith and I asked Him thy kingdom come and thy will be done on earth… in America… in this world… as it is in heaven. Knowing that the Creator who made all things GOOD… knows how to restore His creation to all things GOOD.
So if you have not voted and you are planning on it… why don’t you ask God for His plan or direction… not your own… and know He is bigger than a piece of paper. Go cast your ballot at the feet of the Father and get your sticker that says I’m a child of God… cause last time I checked the reward is greater than being republican or democrat.
